This past weekend the Jordan wrestling team competed against 12 teams in the middle school wrestling league final. The wrestlers did a great job all around! In her first season competing in the sport, 8th grader GG Foster advanced to the finals of the tournament after winning by pin and major decision in her quarterfinal and semifinal bout and keeping her 10-0 undefeated record! In the championship match GG found herself down 9-2 with :30 seconds left and countered her opponent's takedown attempt and threw him to his back using a "cow catcher" to win by pin and claim 1st place. First year wrestler, Ella Jauregui placed 3rd in her weight division. EJ Rudolph-Harris and Angus Yencken both placed 4th in their weight classes as well.
Two students answered last week's Question of the Week questions correctly. Serena Ericson and Searing Dickey. Come to the library and collect your small prize! The final Question of the Week this year is about Summer Reading. Be sure to Check it out in the library!
Tomorrow is the spring choir concert and its a great chance to come out and support your Jags! The event kicks off at 7 and goes until 8 in the MPR. There will be lots of great songs and musical talent by your own peers.
There are over a hundred students who have not signed up for the 8th grade promotion party yet. The deadline for turning in permission slips is this Friday and the cost is 45 dollars. Scholarships are available by request. It will be a fun night full of food and drinks, so make sure you notify your parents to fill out the form! The party takes place on June 1st, from 7-10:30pm in the MPR, there will be our annual promotion party.
As middle school graduation approaches, it's time to start thinking about how students will get to high school. Walking, biking,or taking the free Embarcadero shuttle are all possible options. The City of Palo Alto's Safe Routes to School team will be at Jordan during lunch on Wednesday, May 16th to help students figure it all out. Look for them near the MPR. Students can viisit the Safe Routes table for personalized route assistance, and the Bus & Shuttle table to look at bus and shuttle options. Students can also show that they know how to stay safe on the road at the Safety Quiz table. Stop by all three tables, and get a free slice of pizza! Following this activity there will be a presentation in the MPR on how to get to high school, presented by the Safe Routes to School team, and what to expect once you're there, presented by High School teacher Matt Hall.
It's getting close to that time where Jordan students and staff harness their inner rock star! Airband performances will be on Wednesday, May 16th and Thursday, May 17th at lunch, so be sure to circle those dates on your calendar so you don't miss out on all the fun!
This Wednesday, we have our school-wide open house. The open house is a great chance for students and parents to come see the hard work Jags have done this year! The open house is from 7 to 8:30 pm this Wednesday, May 16th.
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and Jordan's last film festival for the year and continues this week with some new films.
Moana will start next week and be shown in F5, In M1, Hayao Miyazaki groundbreaking anime' classic "Spirited Away will be shown. Life of Pi will be in F-9 at lunch today.
