Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Unlike Veteran's Day, Memorial Day's purpose is to remember specifically those who gave their life in service. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. The day is a national holiday with all government offices, schools, and banks closed in observance which includes Jordan. The day also means that relax on your last weekend as a sixth, seventh, or eighth grader!
